Corporate Social Responsibility Program – CSR
Katoen Natie Terminal Cuenca del Plata is concerned about sustainable economic development.

We respect the environment, and alway pursue a better quality of life for the people living in the terminal’s area of influence.

Corporate Social Responsibility – CSR is one of our fundamental concepts, we work on it daily in four areas: health and sports, education, environment and culture.

What we have accomplished

Sarandí Plaza | Recycled paper | Cultural events and fireworks | Uruguayan “Carnaval” | Heritage Day | Uruguayan art in Belgium | Restoration of the first French Embassy in Uruguay

Sarandí Plaza

The plaza next to the Sarandí breakwater was rebuilt by TCP and SACEEM. It was completely repaved and new lighting was installed between the plaza and the breakwater.

TCP, Saceem and the Intendencia de Montevideo organized a contest to select the best design for plaza Sarandí.

Recycled paper

Solid waste classified by Terminal Cuenca del Plata is collected and delivered to several recycling plants to obtain usable products.

The products obtained from the recycling process are donated to a worthy cause. Recycled paper is processed and donated to a children’s daycare center in the Old City. TCP operates under an all inclusive management system which ensures compliance with safety regulations, quality processes and responsibility for the environment.

Cultural events and fireworks

In April of 2007, TCP organized a great outdoors festival for the citizens of Montevideo, to celebrate the expansion of the terminal.

Several Uruguayan performers and the Belgian hard rock band Epika entertained the public. The show closed with a 30-minute firework display.

Heritage Day

For many years now Katoen Natie Terminal Cuenca del Plata has organized cultural events for Heritage Day. In 2007 we sponsored a festival on the Sarandí Breakwater, where 15.000 Uruguayans enjoyed the music played by local and foreign bands, and the grand firework finale.

Uruguayan “Carnaval”

Elumbé 2008
Each year Katoen Natie Terminal TCP contributes to the parade of Llamadas by sponsoring two groups from our neighborhood: Elumbé and Comparsa de la Aduana. The Belgian managers and local personnel are passionate fans of the Llamadas.

Uruguayan art in Belgium

Katoen Natie was founded in 1854. The first warehouse was built in 1863 to store cotton (katoen in Flemish). This old warehouse is today the headquarters of the Katoen Natie group.

This renewed office building permanently houses an exhibition of Uruguayan art, and receives many visitors who come to enjoy the works of our painters and sculptors.

Restoration of the first French Embassy in Uruguay

The business office of Katoen Natie TCP moved to a new location. We selected an elegant historic building in the Old City. The company made an effort to restore this site, bringing back all its original glamour. This is our contribution to make the Old City a nicer, more enjoyable living environment.
